The last time I was picked up by a stranger was in Phuket, of course... But closer to home (literally), the last time it happened was in August 2004.

I never thought (and still don't think so) that I have what it takes to compel a complete stranger to suddenly come up to me and ask whether he cd get to know me better. The guy in Phuket most definitely did not proposition me bcuz he actually liked me (cuz he was fine with settling for Nazira if I was unavailable). And I still have no idea why that first guy did approach me in Tampines. He was cute and he appeared nice, but I was young and didn't dare pursue it.

Last Tuesday, I was kinda picked up by a guy in SCDF uniform in Tampines Interchange.

I was walking slowly, minding my own business as I nibbled on my kurma (date) when there was this guy walking beside me who looked at me one kind. I was kinda irritated lah... cuz I hate it when ppl look at me for no apparent reason, but when we turned the corner towards McDonald's, I heard him say sth to me. So I took off one earphone and he repeated, "Dah bang eh?" So I answered him lah.

I cd have just sped off ahead, but I didn't feel like it, so I walked my normal pace. He continued to talk to me (apparently my earphones were not a deterrent for him to stop talking) and asked where I was going. So I said I was going home. And he asked me to buka with him cuz he's alone. Duh. I told him, "Why don't you go home then?"

To make the story short, as it turned out, he happened to not only take the same feeder bus as me, but dropped at the same stop as me lah. In the bus he passed me his phone and expected me to type in my number (my fault actually... I agreed to... even tho I think I have no intention of picking up his call). And so I did... and he gave me a missed call so that I'd know his.

When we got down the bus, he asked me whether I have anything on tonight because he wanted to meet me. I was like, helloo... We just met and you want to see me again? That's wayyy too fast for me. And a definite turn off, haha... So I said that I was busy and that I had work to do. Wch was true, because I actually wanted to work on my article that night.

In the end, I slept early and as it turned out, he didn't call me that night either. But he did call me the next day at work. Twice sommore. I was thinking, hello... doesn't he know that in some workplaces, personal phone calls are not allowed? So quit it!

Actually, there were a few things that turned me off him lah... First of all was the fact that he mumbles!! Oh man... I can't stand mumblers! They make me feel deaf when I am most assuredly not!! And I hate having to keep on saying, "Huh?" just because I can't hear what they are trying to say!

Secondly, I have the distinct impression that he's only in NS. So that might possibly mean he's younger than me? And even if he isn't... erm, I am quite sure I'm earning more than him. And thirdly, he looks Indian-ish. No matter wat the heckler at my other blog may say, I am not into Indians or those Indian-types. It's a personal thing.

Three strikes and he's out? I can possibly count more.

But it's kinda freaky that he stays in the area lah... I mean, I don't hang ard my neighbourhood much but still... Makes me more wary when I reach my bus stop just in case he's lurking there somewhere. As it is, when I told him I was busy, I had to walk to the other side of my block just in case he's a freak and was watching where I was heading. You never know ppl these days.

I'm 24 and one of those few ppl who are not attached but no, I am not that desperate yet to accept any guy that comes my way. And even if Taibah said that it's good already that someone wants to pick me up (I'm sure she didn't mean it with malice altho it might sound so) it's okay. I'd rather not get picked up if it means the guy wd be someone I have zero or negative interest in.

So tell me... How many missed calls does it take to give the guy the message that I am not interested? It has been 3 to date... and I hope that's enough.

I read sth in someone's blog today that got me feeling really disturbed... You know smtms when someone writes abt someone else and refuse to mention that person's name, you can't help but wonder whether the former is talking abt you? Yeah... that was what I feel. And the reason why I'm posting this here is because she links this blog to hers and not the other one.

Well, I just want to say... If it is indeed me that you are referring to in your blog, I can't help but feel insulted. And deeply hurt. I have no idea what you heard or experienced that made you so convinced of the person in question's behaviour, but really, if it was me you have in mind, you are wayyy off, man...
